About This Spot

Walking up to Isley's Fish & Chips on Main Street in Bairnsdale, you’re welcomed by a familiar, unpretentious charm that feels like a well-kept secret among locals. The hum of quiet conversations, the occasional laughter from families, and the steady rhythm of friendly staff moving behind the counter create an easygoing atmosphere where time slows just enough to savor simple pleasures. It’s exactly the kind of spot where you slip in for a quick bite but leave feeling like you’ve enjoyed a little moment of comfort in a busy day.

This is casual dining stripped back to its essentials — good food, straightforward service, and a sense of community. The pace here respects both those in a hurry and those who aren’t, with an authenticity that comes from years of quietly doing well rather than shouting loud. The air carries the inviting scent of freshly fried batter, and the warm glow from inside beckons after a day spent exploring the coastal charm of the area.

Isley’s menu offers the kind of familiar favorites that play a peaceful yet satisfying role in so many local lives. The fish is lightly battered and crisp, just the right balance to preserve the flaky softness within. Accompanying everything are chips that, while not sprawling in portion, are perfectly cooked and comforting. Beyond fish and chips, there’s an honest nod toward variety with burgers and seafood packs that mix traditional ingredients with nothing flashy, just thoughtfully prepared fast food that hits the spot.

It’s a place where the food feels fresh and the moments shared — whether grabbing dinner alone or taking a meal home to loved ones — carry a subtle warmth. Friendly smiles behind the counter remind you that here, you’re not just another order number, but a neighbor stepping in for something familiar and well-made. The experience isn’t about extravagance but about simple pleasures done well — and for many in Bairnsdale, that’s exactly why they’ll keep coming back.

Great fish & chips and the only place we go for them in Bairnsdale. Fresh food, great taste and the only negative if you could call it one is the amount of chips you get is not a lot but hey these days everything is expensive. Been going to Isley's since the very beginning and we won't go anywhere else now.

The batter was perfect! Thin but crunchy. Fish was cooked beautifully and the chips were decent, gravy was full of flavour and nice and thick.

Was a bit sceptical coming here based on reviews but limted on options so gave it a try. It was Good friday so could of been hit or miss. Well I have to say that it was some of the best fish and chip we have had in a long time, everything was hot and the fish was a big portion that was juicy with a light, super crispy batter. The only down fall was that were we told a 40 wait that ended up being almost an hr and a half, but considering how crazy busy it was they did well to serve up such high quality.

A google of fish n chips shops in Bairnsdale doesn't foster much hope. But we thought we'd risk Isheys and were very pleasantly surprised. The fish was good, nice batter, not too thick and the chips were also great. I don't understand the low google rating.

Great value for money, it’s not the best fish and chips you’ve ever had in your entire life but it doesn’t have to be. The potato cakes were great and fish portion was generous for price. Cheap, fast and very fresh. Staff were friendly and gave us really nice service. I’d come back and give the burgers a go

Freshly cooked, batter crispy not greasy. Plentiful and tasty. Really enjoyed.

It is really great fish and chips, been there 3 times over the last few weeks, the battered flake is really good. It’s very expensive but what isn’t these days, I’ve included pitches of the menu so you can choose a meal deal which will make it cheaper. A fairly young Asian couple run it, they look like they work very long hours but they are always very friendly.
